A day in the life of Technical Adviser Support, Scott Fincham
Welcome to Logic’s “day in the life” series, where you can learn more about the people at Logic Financial Services, and find out what we do at work and home.
This month, meet Scott Fincham, our Technical Adviser Support. Committed to a healthy morning routine, Scott works behind the scenes, ensuring that everything goes to plan for clients. Busy studying for his exams (which he finds relaxing!), his nan makes sure he stays well fed.
What time do you wake up and do you have a tried and tested morning routine?
I wake up at 7 am. I have been making an effort to get into a morning routine that I’m constantly building on.
I usually start off by doing 15 minutes of stretches, followed by a shower. I have berries and yogurt for breakfast with a pint of salt water. I want to incorporate a little workout or a run but I’m still getting used to my current routine at the moment.
How’s the commute? Do you use public transport, drive, walk, or cycle to work?
I drive to work and aim to leave my house by 8 am.
The drive usually takes about 30 minutes without traffic or can take up to about 50 minutes if I hit traffic… or roadworks!
What are your primary responsibilities?
I manage all new business enquiries, after an adviser has met with clients and completed a fact find, all the way through to when they become an ongoing client. This includes adding fact find information to our back-office system, running attitude-to-risk (ATR) results and Letters of Authority.
I collect relevant plan information for our potential clients so it can be analysed ready for a recommendation to be provided.
Once this is all done, I pass the case over to the paraplanner for a report. My last responsibility is dealing with the implementation of recommended plans that the client has accepted.
First task of the day?
To get up at 7am as I like to hit snooze sometimes so there’s always a mental back and forth!
My first task at work is to check my emails and deal with any client or provider queries.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My day starts by dealing with emails then looking at what tasks are due on our back-office system such as chasing a client or provider for information.
In addition to this, I’ll usually analyse a few plans a day once the information has been received and start to compile some research that the paraplanner can use for their report.
Although not an everyday event, I’ll also add the fact find on to our back-office system. More recently I’ve been writing client reports, so I’m also spending some time on that.
Any top tips for managing your time?
I write a list of everything that I want to get done today and then prioritise them.
My top priority will be dealing with client queries, submitting trades or transfers or sending off relevant paperwork that the client has signed to the provider.
What three small things always make your day better?
Coffee, fresh air, and having a good laugh in the office.
What do you enjoy most about working at Logic?
The company of the people I work with. I know that every day I’m going to have a good laugh, regardless of how I feel on my drive in.
What’s for dinner and who’s cooking?
My favourite dinner is a roast, either chicken, beef or lamb.
I’m lucky enough to live with my nan who insists on cooking dinner every night. Me and my girlfriend will usually cook on the weekends.
How do you unwind in the evening?
I’m studying for exams and have actually found that studying is a good way for me to unwind. Maybe it’s because I’m not using a screen but for whatever reason I have found this to be somewhat relaxing.
I don’t watch TV, but will watch something on YouTube before bed.
