A day in the life of Operations Director, Jon Hinton
Welcome to Logic’s “day in the life” series, where you can learn more about the people at Logic Financial Services, and find out what they do at work and home.
This month, meet Jon Hinton, Operations Director, who helps to ensure both our clients and team are happy before heading home to his family, and his large LEGO collection.
What time do you wake up and do you have a tried and tested morning routine?
My alarm is set for 6.30 am, however one of my daughters often decides that might be a little too much of a lie in. It’s then straight to the queue for a shower (I live with my wife and three daughters… bathrooms are busy places)!
Cup of tea and a bagel, a couple of school drops-offs, then a peaceful drive to Watlington.
How’s the commute? Do you use public transport, drive, walk, or cycle to work?
A relaxing 40-minute drive, Radio 2, and some peace and quiet. I recently got an electric car with lots of mod cons to keep me comfortable!
As Operations Director at Logic, what are your primary responsibilities?
My role is to make sure everything else in the office is working well. Looking at the processing of client information, how we do it, the systems we use and the reports we send.
I also try to make the other staff members have a good experience at Logic. I strongly believe that a happy team will benefit all of our clients, from chats on the phone, to coming in to the office.
Not to forget the Logic fish – they were my idea to greet you when you arrive, so I’m responsible for keeping them clean and fed!
First task of the day?
Emails officially, although I check them in the evening, and before I leave for work to see what my day may look like!
Other than that, it generally changes as I could be sending information to the FCA, preparing for company meetings, staff one-to-ones, or anything else from a long list.
Every day is varied and different (which is why I love it!).
Any top tips for managing your time?
Prioritisation is key: what’s important, what’s urgent, and what is both!
I use my diary to make lots of scribbles and block time out of my day to make sure things get done.
What three small things always make your day better?
Happy clients and happy staff – I count that as one as they often go hand in hand. Sounds quite cheesy but it genuinely makes my day easier.
Finding a Rouge chocolate bar (or another snack) in my desk drawer.
When my daughters have a big smile when I get home and want to tell me about their days, rather than staring at some tablet or other tech.
What do you enjoy most about working at Logic?
The people and what they stand for. Harj and Harmit both want what is best for everyone.
I’ve worked in a number of IFA firms and this is the first time I have felt like I’m really part of a team.
Logic started 10 years ago, and to this day it is clear that the focus is on our clients. Although everyone says that, with the experience I have, Logic is the place that lives that the most.
What’s for dinner and who’s cooking?
Depends on who gets home first… I make a mean cottage pie and my wife is a dab hand at risotto or lasagne. So, it’s usually a home-cooked meal, or frozen leftovers.
If the kids had their say, we’d all have the easy time of nuggets, potato waffles, and beans!
How do you unwind in the evening?
LEGO!
When I get a chance between work, wife, children and a bit of tennis (I do play but not as much as I probably should), LEGO is my go-to.
My prized possessions of my LEGO Old Trafford, Concord, F1 cars, 80s TV (Ghostbusters and Transformers), as well as a number of other bits that have turned the kids playroom into Daddy’s LEGO room, keep me sane.
Quickfire round
Favourite food? Roast Dinner – lamb, but any will do!
Favourite film? The Shawshank Redemption, although there are a number of others that could have easily taken top spot.
Top of your reading list? A good biography – normally a comedian or a footballer.
Top of your bucket list? Auschwitz tour. A bit of an odd one but I had a real interest in world war two and through books (The Tattooist of Auschwitz), TV series, and films, and I think the experience would be humbling.
What are you listening to right now? Whatever my daughters instruct! My car time is filled with Radio 2, until one of my children take over with Spotify.
What are you watching right now? The Lioness – a series about the CIA. Very dramatic but it has me hooked. If I ever get a quiet moment at home, The Big Bang Theory is my go-to for a 20-minute mini binge!
