A day in the life of Operations Manager, Susi Addiscott

Welcome to Logic’s “day in the life” series, where you can learn more about the people at Logic Financial Services, and find out what we do at work and home.

This month, meet Susi Addiscott, our Operations Manager. Kept busy morning and night by her horses, Susi Addiscott fuels herself on tea from her early 5.30 am starts and relies on her trusty noise-cancelling headphones when she needs to concentrate.

What time do you wake up and do you have a tried and tested morning routine?

I have horses, so am an early riser by necessity. The alarm goes off at 5.30 am, and I’m on the yard by 6 am. See to the horses and home by 7.30, just in time for a quick shower before starting work.

All of this is fuelled by two or three large travel mugs of strong Yorkshire Tea!

How’s the commute? Do you use public transport, drive, walk, or cycle to work?

The joys of living in the Oxfordshire countryside mean I have no option but to drive my commute.

It’s too far to walk (10 miles). The country lanes are a rat run in the rush hour and too dangerous to cycle (not to mention too steep for my fitness levels!), and the public transport is virtually non-existent!

What are your primary responsibilities?

I’m the Operations Manager and a jack of all trades. I head up the customer support teams and oversee the office itself.

I cover day-to-day management of back-office processes and software, plus reconcile our fees and income for the Finance Director. I produce the compliance reporting required by the FCA, and report this to our directors.

Currently, I’m also covering a small portion of our client bank’s admin work, while a colleague is on maternity leave.

First task of the day?

Another cup of tea and checking overnight emails, you would be surprised how many I get after 5 pm (I always am!).

What does a typical day look like for you?

What I love about my job is that it is so varied – there’s no such thing as a “typical day”.

Any top tips for managing your time?

Lists and reminders, lots of lists and reminders.

What three small things always make your day better?

  1. An unending supply of tea
  2. My lovely office team
  3. Good noise-cancelling headphones when I need to concentrate!

What do you enjoy most about working at Logic?

My wonderful colleagues, of course!

What’s for dinner and who’s cooking?

As a single parent, with my daughter now off at Uni, I don’t have the luxury of someone else cooking for me. With a busy schedule, I just cook something quick!

How do you unwind in the evening?

I’m straight back to the horses after work to ride and sort out their stables/feed. So, there isn’t really time for anything else!

Quickfire questions

Favourite food? Food is functional, anything quick!

Top of your reading list? Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett – I have read the Discworld series at least five times over.

What are you listening to right now? I have eclectic tastes! Current faves are Old Dominion (an American country group) and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

What are you watching right now? I don’t really watch TV, only really the news while I make my tea in the late evening.
